The person who tore up the copy of the Quran was reportedly named Edwin Wagensveld, who heads the Dutch chapter of the far-right German organization Patriotic Europeans Against Islamization (Pegita). PEGIDA is an anti-Islamic far-right political movement in Europe.

Regarding this, the Saudi Arabian ministry said, ‘Such an abominable act arouses the sentiments of millions of Muslims around the world. We insist on spreading the values ​​of dialogue, tolerance and coexistence and rejecting hate-extremism.

The UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs also issued a statement condemning it on Tuesday. The ministry said, ‘The UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MoFAIC) rejects such violations. The ministry stressed the need to respect religious symbols and avoid polarization at a time when the world needs to work together to spread the values ​​of tolerance and coexistence and reject hatred and extremism.

The Muslim countries of Qatar, Kuwait, Jordan, Egypt and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) have also condemned the incident. Turkey also protested the incident and summoned the Netherlands ambassador to express its displeasure.
