An Indian-origin doctor has been sentenced to two life sentences by a British criminal court. According to media reports, the doctor has already been jailed three times for raping 28 women over four years. Manish Shah, 53, was sentenced on Monday to two life sentences of 10 years each after pleading guilty last month to 25 counts of sexually assaulting four women at his east London clinic, the BBC reported. The former general practitioner was already serving three life sentences for 90 previous offences. In such case, further imprisonment shall be imposed in addition to the previous sentence.
Convicted of 115 sexual harassment offenses against 28 women
Shah has so far been convicted of 115 counts of sexual assault against a total of 28 women between the ages of 15 and 34. The investigation revealed that over four years beginning in 2009, Shaw used high-profile cases of celebrities to get female patients to undergo unnecessary intimate examinations for sexual satisfaction.
He is used to playing a caring doctor
Judge Peter Rook, who ruled at the Central Criminal Court, said Shaw was a “danger to women” and his behavior had caused “long-term psychological damage” to victims, the BBC reported. During the December hearing, the court was told that Shaw presented himself as a caring and caring doctor who was willing to go the extra mile for his patients.
A 15-year-old girl was also raped
But prosecutor Rielle Carmi-Jones Casey told how the doctor “abused and abused” the women, according to the report. Shaw’s youngest victim, who was 15 at the time of the abuse, said the doctor told her she was “likeable” and would “do well at modelling” and warned she might have cancer. He accepted the mental damage caused by Shah. Another victim said, “He tortured me more because I was quiet. He preyed on the weak.” In 2020, Shaw was sentenced to three life terms for 90 counts of sexually assaulting female patients.
