At least 5 dead after earthquakes hit southern Iran

Four separate earthquakes were recorded near the southern port city of Bandar Lengeh, including earthquakes of magnitude 6.1, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). The Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Center also recorded a 6.2-magnitude earthquake in southern Iran.

Fars news agency reported that 12 villages in the surrounding Hormozgan province were affected.

The official Iranian news agency, quoting local officials, reported that most of the damage occurred in the village of Sayehkhush, where many homes were destroyed.

“Currently there are 75 rescue forces and emergency teams in the earthquake-affected areas using 12 operation vehicles,” the Iranian Red Crescent Society said on Twitter.
