“I wish I had kept my grandfather’s nose.”
After years of speculating about plastic surgery through adolescence and into adulthood, Bella Hadid He puts things straight.
Talking to Vogue magazine For the magazine’s cover story in April, Bella explained her history of cosmetic procedures — and explained why she only regrets one procedure.
“I wish I had kept my grandparents’ nose, I think I would have grown up in it,” the model, now 25, said while referring to a rhinoplasty she had at age 14.
As for the long-running rumors that she also used dermal fillers and surgically altered various parts of her face — the internet was sometimes convinced she had an eye lift and jaw reduction — Bella notes that there is no truth to these claims.
“People think I totally sported my face because of one picture of me as a teenager looking puffy,” Bella said. “I’m sure you don’t look like you’re 13, do you? I’ve never used fillers. Let’s just put an end to it. I don’t have a problem with it, but it’s not for me.”
“Whoever thinks I raised my eyes or whatever it’s called – it’s face tape! I offer the best trick in the book,” she continued, adding that public accusations about body modification contributed to her experience with Impostor syndromea psychological state characterized by feelings of doubt and worthlessness.
“I had this imposter syndrome where people made me feel like I didn’t deserve any of this,” Bella said. “People always have something to say, but what I have to say is that I am always misunderstood in my field of work and by the people around me.”
Bella talked about how early comparisons to her older sister were made, Gigi HadidIt eventually affected how she saw herself, too. “I was the ugly sister. I was a brunette. I wasn’t as gorgeous as Gigi, and I wasn’t extroverted,” she said. “That’s really what people have said about me. Unfortunately when you are told things so many times, you only believe it.”
“I always ask myself, ‘How did a girl with incredibly insecure, anxiety, depression, body image issues, eating problems, who hates being touched, who has severe social anxiety – what was I doing in this business?”
Bella remembers, “But over the years I’ve become a good actress. I wear a very smiling face, or a very strong face. I always felt like I had something to prove.”
“People can say anything about my appearance, how I talk, how I act. But in seven years I haven’t missed a job, or canceled a job, and been late for a job,” she said. “No one can say I don’t work my ass off.”
