Emmett TillA bereaved family is saddened and appalled that the Motion Picture Academy omitted the film from this tragic, pivotal story in American history…and did so in every Oscar category.
Cousin of Emmett and co-founder of the Emmett Till Legacy Foundation, Deborah WattsTMZ says… The family is terribly disappointed with the “Till” movie and its lead actress Daniel Didwiller – Who Plays Emmett’s Mother – Did not receive any nominations.
Deborah says Danielle “embodied and delivered the true essence of our cousin, a loving and courageous mother, Mamie Tell Mobley. She reached deeply and poured her heart and soul into this role as she embraced us with depth like no other, while transforming into Mamie and bringing her true essence and her story to life.”
As you know, the movie tells the story of Emmett’s 1955 kidnapping and lynching in Mississippi… which sent shockwaves across the country when a photo of his brutally beaten body was released.
How the family feels about Danielle being ignored is in line with the social media trend — people are pointing out that no black women are nominated in the Best Actor category… and it wouldn’t be the first time.
Some users noticed Viola Davis Another worthy competitor was her performance in the box office hit “The Woman King”.
Moving forward, Deborah says, “The Emmett Till Legacy family and community of supporters will ensure that the legacy and story of Emmett and Mamie continues to be told with or without any awards.”
