Ars Technica has learned that the latest operating system for iPhones will be available next week. iOS 15.4 will provide the ability to unlock your iPhone by facial recognition while wearing a mask, among other additions. We expect this to be the last major OS update before iOS 16.
iOS 15.4 went into beta in January, which gives us a sneak peek at the new features. Apple did not give a specific OS release date but said yesterday that the new green color iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro It will come with iOS 15.4 and will be available on March 18th.
iOS 15.4 will allow you to unlock the phone using Face ID while wearing a face mask. The feature works by focusing on your eyes, and you can use it while wearing glasses (not sunglasses). It also works to sign in to apps and use Apple Pay. Having your phone’s camera still requires a full view of your face to log in is the safest way to make sure Face ID isn’t scammed, but being able to use your phone while keeping your mask on is more convenient.
The latest iOS version from Apple should offer more emojis. New smiley faces and colorful characters bring a total of up to 838 characters, which are finished as Unicode 14.0 by the Unicode Consortium in September. New additions include Heart Hands, Coral, Lip Biting, Melting Face, Flowing Liquid, Low Battery, Pregnant Man and Pregnant Woman.
