Strong news for China
India will assume the presidency of G20 on December 1 this year. It has proposed the name of the state of Jammu and Kashmir for the G20 summit in 2023. A number of G20 meetings will be held before the summit. According to the English news website Indian Express, India has also proposed Ladakh as a destination. A tense situation has prevailed between the Indian and Chinese armies along the Line of Actual Control in Ladakh for the past two years. The armies of both countries have retreated at some points, but the stalemate remains.

A Nodal Officer has been appointed to prepare for the G20 Summit in Ladakh
According to an Indian Express report, the Ladakh administration has started preparations for the G-20 meeting. LG RK Mathua has appointed a senior IAS officer and an IPS officer as nodal officers to coordinate with the Ministry of External Affairs regarding the meeting.

The Jammu and Kashmir administration constituted a 5-member committee
Similarly, on June 23, the Jammu and Kashmir administration also set up a five-member committee for preparations and coordination of the proposed G-20 meeting. Principal Secretary, Department of Housing and Urban Development has been appointed as the Chairman of this committee.

China has objected to this
China has objected to the news that the G-20 summit will be held in Jammu and Kashmir. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian said in a press conference last week, ‘We are aware of the relevant information. China’s position on the Kashmir issue is consistent and very clear. This is an ongoing issue between India and Pakistan. It should be properly addressed in accordance with relevant UN resolutions and bilateral agreements.
