Russia’s Defense Ministry said the attack on the Kramatorsk buildings was in retaliation for a Ukrainian attack earlier this year on Russian forces in Makiivka, part of Moscow’s military-held Donetsk region, which killed at least 89 soldiers.
The ministry said in a statement that it used credible intelligence to target Ukrainian troops. According to this information, more than 700 Ukrainian soldiers are housed in one hostel, and more than 600 in another hostel.
After receiving this information, we launched a large-scale missile attack on these targets, the Russian Defense Ministry said. More than 600 Ukrainian soldiers were killed in these attacks. In such a case, if this claim of Russia is correct, this would be the largest incident of killing of Ukrainian soldiers since the invasion of Russia on February 24.
